Old Sturbridge Village Gardens

David Wight had a farm here in the nineteenth century with a sawmill, gristmill and millpond. In 1936 George Washington Wells, founder of the American Optical Company of Southbridge, decided to use the village as a museum for his historical collection. Arthur Shurcliff was employed to design American heritage gardens, including plots for vegetables and flowers and other ornamental features. The village has a collection of historic buildings.
