Huntington Botanical Gardens

The estate of a railroad king has a great library and an extensive botanical garden. Fountains and statues were collected from Italian gardens. There are distant views of the mountains, a rose garden, a Japanese garden, a Shakespeare garden, a desert garden and many others. The idea of assembling a mix of theme gardens in varied styles derives, via Andrew Jackson Downing, from Humphry Repton and the Victorian Mixed Style of garden design.
