The Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens was designed to be a place where nature, research and technology come together. The gardens are laid out in nine native habitats of the Acadian Forest Region, using plants which are native to the region. There is also a Medicinal and Food Garden, a Conservatory, a formal Walled Garden and an Experimental Garden.
