Trengwainton Garden

Gardenvisit Editorial

A walled garden and a woodland garden planted by Sir Edward Bolitho in the 1920s. Good collections of magnolias, rhododendrons and camellias. The bog garden, beside the stream, is planted with primulas and mecanopsis. The former kitchen garden has been planted with tender plants. Graham Stuart Thomas wrote that 'Sir Edward gardened, as he used to say, "above the knee", which was his way of informing one that lowly plants did not interest him. In fact he would walk regardlessly through primroses, cyclamens and daffodils to point out to me yet another of his special treasures'.
