The Botanical Garden was started in 1929 and is now named after Dr. Mildred Mathias who served as Director from 1956 to 1974. It has a good collection of tropical and subtropical plants.

Because this small botanical garden is located in a ravine, it's easy to forget that you're in the middle of Los Angeles as you stroll along the paths or sit on one of the benches admiring the mature trees surrounding you. There is a small stream with koi and a waterfall. (Admission is free, there is a charge for parking on campus.)
