Michelham Priory Garden

The Priory, on a moated island, was founded in 1229 and became incorporated into a country house. The moat and stewponds have garden planting. There is also a physic garden based on the plan which Charlemagne commissioned for St Gall.

Really lovely place to visit. In the heart of the Sussex countryside and in peaceful surroundings. We went in May and this coincided with their Garden & Food Fair.

The gardens were not over exploited and were loyal to the origins of the property. The walks to the moat area and Millers Property were well thought out with plenty of opportunity for photo opportunities and plenty of resting places along the way.

I would certainly recommend this garden to people of all ages and interests. From planting to the occasional sculptures, the gardens at Michelham Priory will bring enjoyment to all for many years to come.

A monastry on a moated island, always something to make me perk up.

The planting is domestic and there is a sense of intimacy.
