The Priory, on a moated island, was founded in 1229 and became incorporated into a country house. The moat and stewponds have garden planting. There is also a physic garden based on the plan which Charlemagne commissioned for St Gall.

Opening times - March to October. Tuesday to Sunday. Also open Mondays in August and Bank Holidays. Open 10.30 am to 5pm (or 4:30pm in March and October, 5:30pm in August).

    A monastry on a moated island, always something to make me perk up.

    The planting is domestic and there is a sense of intimacy.
