Holy Island Lindisfarne Jekyll Garden

Gertrude Jekyll designed a small flower garden for Edward Hudson in 1911. The client was the owner and publishe of Country Life. Hudson's first idea was to make a water garden and tennis court in a marshy area (the Stank) north of the castle rock. Instead of this, Jekyll used an existing walled enclosure (probably a vegetable garden) to make a flower garden with a central sundial and interlocking rectangular flower beds. It is a charming incident in  what is already a very romantic setting.
