This interesting historic garden has suffered in the past years in a lack of horticulture, the planting is not very interesting but the basic structure is still in existance. Unfortunately the house was demolished a number years ago and replaced with a particularly ugly school building, therefore on arrival be prepared for a big let down. However, the bones of a great garden still exist and the architecture of Edwin Lutyens remains in all its glory, along with the Fountain which Lutyens and Poe fell out over. It is worth a visit if only to compare and contrast with Ballintubbert garden a few miles away where, in the past few years, they have constructed a garden much more in keeping with Lutyens original intentions. Visiting both Heywoood and Ballintubbert makes for a lovely day out and an educational one too.
