Gardenvisit Editorial

The St Ninians mine, in Fife, is being transformed into a public art project. The client is the Scottish Resources Group (the parent company of Scottish Coal) and the designer is Charles Jencks, an architectural historian and postmodern landscape architect. The 269-hectare site is beside the M90 motorway. It will have four great mounds: rectangular, conical, triangular, and horn-shaped. There are 40m Scots living outside Scotand and these mounds represent the continents they have influenced. The site will also have a lake and cliffs.
