The house, built in 1770, was demolished in 1938, but the stables, entrance gate, chapel, park and gardens survive. Formerly, the estate was part of Sherwood Forest. The park has a lake, what is claimed to be the 'longest double lime avenue in Europe', a classical bridge and temples. Brown, Repton and Knight advised on the design. The Lincoln terrace, a lakeside walk, was designed by William Sawrey Gilpin and has been restored by the National Trust. The focus of horticultural interest is the 4 acre Walled Kitchen Garden, complete with 450feet Long Range glasshouse, traditional fruit and vegetable varieties and Museum of Gardening Tools.
