ANNUAL FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL, held third weekend each September Surrounded by fields of corn and soybeans, The Arboretum has strong ties to Iowa agriculture. The Annual Fall Harvest Festival, held the third weekend each September, not only marks the end of a growing season, but is a joyful celebration of autumn and the summer’s success. The festival is The Arboretum’s signature event, a family weekend for the Cedar Valley community and Northeast Iowa. Hawkeye Community College's Scarecrow Scamper is held the Saturday morning and The Arboretum's Wine & Scarecrows fundraising event is that evening. Each require pre-registration. The main attraction of the Sunday day-long festival is the Scarecrow Contest, with unique scarecrows made in every shape and size by community businesses and individuals. Other Sunday events include an open-air market, games and crafts for children of all ages, hayrides, picnic food, and day-long stage performances.
