The garden was established in 1968 and opened to the public in 1971. The Chinese garden is known as Qian Yuan (Qian Garden) in memory of the poet Tao Qian (365-427 AD). There are a number of greenhouses, the largest of which is the tropical house. The tropical house has a stream and tropical birds, including Toucans.
