The garden of Nippon is interesting in its winter adornment. To protect trees, plants, and moss in an artistic manner against snow and frost, various devices have been formed. A pole is fastened to the trunk of pine-trees in an upright position, to the top of which ropes are attached with other ends tied to the spreading branches to help bear the burden of snow.
