Morris, William

Born - Died : 1834 - 1896

A poet, craftsman, author, artist and pioneer socialist. William Morris was involved with the pre-Raphaelite brotherhood and started a firm designing and making fabrics and wallpapers, many of which are still manufactured. His involvement with garden design was peripheral but important. William Morris criticized Victorian 'carpet bedding', admired 'old English' gardens and designed a sweet garden for the Manor at Kelmscott.
