W.G. Hoskins

English historian, born in Exeter. His book on the Making of the English Landscape took an evolutionary approach to explaining how landscape was made. The book was followed by a BBC TV programme on Landscapes of England (1976-8). Hoskins popularised the use of the word landscape with a geographical connotation.
