Hobbes, Thomas

Born - Died : 1588 - 1679

English philosopher, said to have been born when his mother heard that the Spanish Armada was approaching. Thomas Hobbes life was greatly affected by the civil disorders of his time. He concluded that without a social contract the life of man would be 'nasty, bruitish and short' - a constant war of everyman against everyman. Thomas Hobbes most famous book was Leviathan. He died at Hardwick Hall.
