An English portrait painter and art theorist. Joshua Reynolds Discourses were delivered to the Royal Academy in London and expounded the Neoplatonic theory that 'art should imitate nature'. Reynolds was aquainted with Humphry Repton and read the play which Repton wrote before becoming a landscape gardener.
