A Scots Arts and Crafts architect and garden designer, born in Edinburgh. He was, the son of a lawyer and educated at Edinburgh Academy and Edinburgh University. Lorimer started a practice in 1892 and worked on a large number of country houses, castles and public buildings. He lived at Kellie Castle in East Fife. In addition to Kellie Castle and Hill of Tarvit, he also worked on Earlshall Castle which is open under the National Garden Scheme.
