Barragan, Luis

Born - Died : 1902 - 1988

Luis Barragan was trained as an engineer but became a self-taught garden designer and an architect. He travelled in France and met Le Corbusier. Barragan loved colour, abstract design and gardens. His own house and studio in Mexico City, in Tacubaya,  is now a museum. Several of his famous gardens survive in private ownership and may occasionally be seen. 'In landscape and garden settings, Barragan created a palette of wall planes taht act as dominant elements and inhabitants of larger metaphysical landscapes, screens for revealing the natural beauth and hidden colours of Mexico.'
