Lady Luxborough

a biography from the Garden and Landscape Guide

Born - Died : ? - 1756

Henrietta Knight, Lady Luxborough, was described by Horace Walpole as 'high coloured', 'lusty', and possessed of as 'a great black bush of hair'. After a 'gallantry' she left her husband and made a garden at Barrells, near The Leasowes. Anyone who has visited The Leasowes on a damp midland day will know that the area is not conducive to romance.
