Henry Wotton

An English diplomat, poet and scholar. He travelled extensively and served as ambassador to Venice. When short of money, he published a book on the Elements of Architecture (1624) which drew heavily upon Vitruvius and advised architects to aim for Commodity, Firmness and Delight.
