Wise, Henry

A gardener and garden designer, Wise was apprenticed to George London at the Brompton Nursery and later became his partner. Both drew their inspiration from France and Holland, favouring avenues and topiary. London and Wise worked together at Chelsea Hospital, Longleat, Chatsworth, Melbourne Hall and Castle Howard. Wise was appointed Royal Gardener to Queen Anne and George I.
