Henry VIII,

Born - Died : 1491 - 1547

English king, born at Greenwich and crowned in 1509. The Royal Naval College building, now occupied by the University of Greenwich and Trinity College of Music, stands on the site of the palace in which he was born and the land which is now Greenwich Park was then a hunting park. Henry grew up with a love of the arts and of hunting. Wishing to rival Francoise I garden and Chateau de Fontainebleau, he had a great garden made at Hampton Court. The palace survives but the park has changed. Henry is most widely remembered for his 6 wives and for making England a protestant country.
