Chatto, Beth

English gardener, author and proprietor of a nursery, Beth Chatto Gardens, in Essex. Her first book, The Dry Garden, was published in 1978. Beth Chatto explains that 'I do not make a practice of watering the garden in periods of drought, although I must confess the Big Drought of 1976 almost overcame my resolve not to water some of my borders' (p. 19). A companion book on the Damp Garden was published in 1982.
