Scots writer on taste, a friend of Dugald Stewart. In 1790, Archibald Allison published his 'Essay on the Nature and Principles of Taste'. He studied natural history, as a desciple of Gilbert White, and sought to prove that beauty is not a quality of things. It results from the association of ideas.
