French naturalist and author of La Theorie et la pratique du jardinage (1709). Dezallier D'Arganville's book codified the style of garden design developed by Le Notre. Eleven editions were published, with translations, and Dezallier D'Arganville did much to facilitate the fashion for trying to 'outshine Versailles'.
