Hon Alicia Margaret Tyssen Amherst lived at Hatfield House and was the author of A History of Gardening in England, London, 1895; London Parks and Gardens ... With illustrations by Lady Victoria Manners; and Children's Gardens. Her work on garden history was more scholarly than that of previous garden historians - and she had the great advantage of access to the Salisbury family papers.
