Gardenvisit Editorial

This small botanic garden was established in the 1980s on a former pig farm. The water features make use of stormwater runoff from the surrounding suburbs - a good precendent for urban stormwater management in parks and gardens. The focus is on species native to the region.

The Winkler Botanical Preserve is a beautiful place, but everytime I am there walking and see the older female ranger, Jody, she is rude and unfriendly. The men working there are always friendly and smile if they see me, but the woman is just rude, without fail.

If you go, don't plan on asking any questions whatsoever. You will be made to feel stupid and that you are a waste of time, even if it is a quick question like when was the preserve founded? I have overheard her making snide remarks to the other workers there about other visitors when she thinks no one is around. So if you go, just enjoy your walk, but don't expect a normal nature preserve atmosphere. It is not.
