The 8 acre ornamental gardens are loved by plant enthusiasts for the large well-labelled plant collection and unusual nursery stockbeds. The gardens include one of the finest purely herbaceous borders in the country which flowers continuously from May to October. Other main features include a formal knot garden highlighting planting through the ages; a rose garden; contemporary grass border, Alan Bloom-designed island beds and a riverside walk.
The ornamental gardens at Waterperry date back to the early 1930s when Beatrix Havergal set up her School of Horticulture for Ladies. When the school closed in 1972, it paved the way for much development in the gardens which are now famous - not least for the purely herbaceous border which is a joy to behold from May to late September.
Waterperry holds the NCCPG for Kabschia and Silver Saxifrages.
