The Riviera in general and Cap Ferat in particular have long been famous for an exotic lifestyle. The garden was designed by the French partner of Harold Peto, an English architect and garden designer who worked in an Italian version of the Arts and Crafts style (his garden at Iford Manor in England is open to the public). Beatrix de Rothschild, who commissioned Aaron Messiah, admired Peto's approach and described her villa as a 'palazzino'. The garden has a formal terrace which projects into picturesque park, ornamented with small temples and other garden buildings. The planting is lush and exotic.
Address - avenue E de Rothschild, 06230 Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France
Opening times - All year. Daily. Open 10am (2pm in winter) to 6pm (7pm in July and August).

I was at the gardens in July and even though they were not at their peek in regard to the flowers, the gardens and villa were beautiful and well work a visit. The orchestrated fountains were very impressive. Loved my visit and highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

One of the best gardens I've visited this year! From the moment you set eyes on the pink villa and the musical fountains, you enter a garden Disneyland! There are nine different gardens here at Villa Ephrussi and each one is remarkable. Don't miss this!

Definitely one of the most beautiful gardens of the Riviera, any time of the year.

Awesome - great views, great gardens, great house. What a great experience walking through these gardens. Visited in October 2007 courtesy of an Air France strike which gave us two additional days in the south of France. I understand why this garden is listed on at least two "Ten Best Gardens in the World" lists. A must see for all those who love to garden.

Stunning views of the Mediterranean. Gorgeous and opulent garden. Beautifully maintained and planted, it reflects the luxury and near opulance the Rothschild family enjoyed, and thank goodness we can all appreciate it now !!
As a complete contrast visit the equally lovely Serre de la Madonne but without the extensive investment this place enjoys.
