Staatspark Fuerstenlager, Bensheim

Gardenvisit Editorial

Work on the landscape garden began in 1790. Intended as a summer residence (‘Fuerstenlager’) for the Landgraves and Grand Dukes of Hessen-Darmstadt, garden and park are located in an idyllic setting, in the middle of a valley surrounded by woods, vineyards and orchards. The centre of the park is a picturesque ‘village’, its small houses clustered around a mineral spring (‘Gesundbrunnen’), at the time thought to have healing properties.
