Otto Schoepfle was a banker who became Chief Executive Officer Chronicle Telegram. He bought the land in 1936 and his garden began to grow, partly inspired by visits to Europe. In 1969 it was given to Lorain County Metro Parks. There is a Formal Garden, a Shade Garden and natural woodland. Schoepfle borders the Vermilion River.
