Gardenvisit Editorial

The oldest botanic garden in the Czech Republic. The garden was originally in the Smichov quarter but was moved to the current site in 1898 as it was frequently flooded when the river Vltava overflowed. Worth visiting if you are in the area but not worth an excursion.

This is a wonderful garden in the middle of a city. Plants from around the world, including a huge succulent display. We easily spent an entire day strolling the paths. We were wishing we had taken our books so that we would have had an excuse to sit, rest and read for a while! Many of the locals do. If you are at all interested in plants this is well worth visiting. Most of the plants are labelled and it must be remembered that this is part of a university faculty therefore its function is to teach and aid research.
Included in the garden is an excellent display of rocks from the Bohemian region. These all have information relating to their composition, history and the locality in which they can be found.
