Gardenvisit Editorial

A Neo-Gothic (1793) house by James Wyatt with a terrace garden and woodland garden on the banks of the Menai Straits. Repton made proposals for the garden but the terrace was made in the twentieth century. The garden at Plas Newydd is one for all the seasons. The 5 acre rhododendron garden, accessed along a woodland and marine walk along the banks of the Menai Strait, is at its best in the spring. In the summer the terrace garden is an explosion of colour. The autumn brings golden colours and massed hydrangeas.

What a totally stunning location ! The views across the Menai Straits and up to the welsh mountains are breathtaking.
I have only visited in the summer so have only enjoyed the flowers as the photos reflect, but there are lots of plantings to enjoy apart from the view and plenty of space to wander.
The house is worth a visit if just to admire Rex Whistlers pictures especially the enormous one !
