A classic Victorian park, designed by Joseph Paxton. As in his design for the Crystal Palace, there is a terrace along the highest ridge of the site with a transition to a lawn and 'wild area'.

    Correction! The sundial in Halifax People's Park is not in the centre of the circle, as indicated: it's at the junction of two paths which are emerging from the shrubbery, directly above it on your photo. The dial hardly shows but is a dark shadowy rectangle, and is actually a stunning vertical dial on a 10 ft stone plinth, very striking and a lovely feature.
