Mount Royal Cemetery Garden

Mount Royal Cemetery is one of the oldest rural garden cemeteries in North America, using an idea, from Pere Lachaise in Paris and promoted in the writings of J C Loudon, that cemeteries could be beautiful gardens of meditation. Mount Royal was made on the site of old farms, with a series of paths and terraces following the mountain's topography. There is natural woodlands crab apple trees and Japanese lilacs and flowers.
