The Mercer Gardens were started by Thelma and Charles Mercer. They are beside Cypress Creek and display plants from the Texas Gulf Coast. There is also a range of theme gardens including a Fern Garden, a Louisiana Iris Collection, a Daylily Collection, a Bamboo Collection, a Crinum Collection, and a Prehistoric Garden.

    I take advantage of the early spring that gardeners in south Texas enjoy by visiting Mercer early in the season. The sub-tropical climate is warm and balmy with scents of gingers and sweet olive perfuming the air on still mornings. Well worth a visit when in the Houston area!
