Madinat al-Zahra

Gardenvisit Editorial

Madinat al-Zahra ('City of the Flowes') was once the most splendid Moorish palace city in Spain. It was begun in 936 (by Caliph Abd al-Rahman III) and destroyed in 1010. It has been excavated since 1922 and requires use of the imagination to see the lush gardens and pools which once filled the city.
