Lucy Morton Hudgins began to create the garden in 1929 and her son William Henry Hudgins continued her work. He was Personal Aide to both President Truman and Admiral Carney and as such travelled extensively. During his travels, he collected many items for the garden. There is a fountain copied from one of the fountains at the Alhambra, a cloister imported from Italy, a rose garden, herb garden, pink garden and white garden.

MacCallum More Gardens is a unique and interesting place to visit. It has statues that you are suprised to see in this small town in Southern Virginia! A Samuri Warrior that is 17th Century bronze along with statues of a Greek Goddess, Ceaser, a set of anchors from a very large Navy ship adorns on of the walkways along with lots of small statues and urns. The pathways are lined with boxwoods, dogwoods and azaleas. Stonework in the walls is amazing along with the the friezes that are incorporated. Flowers are scattered in the beds and pots throughout the garden. The Museum houses an extraordianry collection of Native American Artifacts along with area items of interest.
Check it out, it is worth the time to visit.
