Lujiazui Park, Pudong

Pudong is a modern district on the east of Shanghai's Huangpu River (Pudong means 'East of Pu'). Most people view the dramatic area which is becoming Shanghai's financial district from the Bund riverfront or from the Oriental Pearl Tower. But the view from Lujiazui Park is also worthwhile: it calmer and the buildings look more harmoniously composed, with extensive use of greenish-blue glass. The park design is 'western with Chinese features' but the mown grass is not accessible for public use and, apart from buying cups of tea in the elegant cafe, there is little to do in the park. Signs refer to a 'nature reserve' but one would not be able to detect its presence without the signs.
