The Lakeside Sunken Gardens is a historic park in Fort Wayne. Originally, roses were considered ill-suited to the climate in this area because of the harsh winters. However, it was discovered that the clay of Indiana was ideal fo roses. The completed rose garden, elevated above a sunken garden with reflecting ponds, was finished in the early 1920s and has brought many thousands of visitors to Lakeside Park. There is ice skating in the winter.
