    Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times. Entrance fee for dogs is R2 per visit. Dog owners are required to clean up after their dogs.

    2008 marks the 100th anniversary of the well-known Plane Tree Avenue in the KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden. Planted by Curator Marriott on the 8th November 1908, the avenue is now a majestic landmark in Pietermaritzburg. A series of events is being planned to celebrate this centenary, which coincides with the opening of the new restaurant and entrance facilities Sunday 19 October 12 noon Pipe Band in the Avenue The Pietermaritzburg Caledonian Pipe Band will be celebrated its 90th anniversary with a recital in the Plane Tree Avenue. This will also be a recruitment drive for the band to attract new members. Saturday 8 November Formal dinner to celebrate centenary of the Plane Tree Avenue The Botanical Society KZN Inland Branch will be celebrating the centenary of the Plane Tree Avenue with Bubbly in the Avenue followed by a formal dinner with well known botanical historian Donald McCracken as guest speaker. Sunday 23 November 3pm Flowers in Namaqualand An illustrated talk by Prof Rob Hart at the Strelitzia Room Restaurant, followed by tea. Botanical Society KZN Inland Branch. Saturday 6 December 7.30am Botanical Society end-of-year function Bird walk with Bill Howell at 07.30am, followed by buffet breakfast at the Strelitzia Room Restaurant at about 9am.
