Kenroku-en Garden in Kanazawa (Photo courtesy Jaque Tseng)Kenroku-en was made for a daimyo family between 1620 and 1840 and is one of the official 'Three Great Gardens of Japan'. Its name, meaning Six Attributes Garden, derives from the "Chronicles of the Famous Luoyang Gardens" by the Chinese poet Li Gefei. The Six Attributes of a beautiful landscape are: waterways, spaciousness, artifice, antiquity, seclusion and panoramas.

Jamie - Just go and see for yourself if you possibly can. It is the most wonderful garden my husband and I have ever been to.

(5.0/5)Thanks for the links to the old photos of Kenroku-en. But I have two questions (1) which are the others of the 'Three Great Gardens of Japan' (2) what is so great about Kenroku-en? - I can't see it from the photographs.
