Kearsney Court Garden

The public parts of Bushy Ruff/Russell Gardens/Kearsney Abbey are free although parking is limited, both are maintained by local authority contractors. Bushy Ruff has a large lake with ducks and swans and a woodland walk to the North. Water from the lake passes through into Russel Gardens where there are a pair of bridges/waterfalls and goes near a kids playground and toilets. Across the road is "Kearsney Abbey", again with lots of ducks, swans, coots and moorhen etc. Toilets and ice cream shop where you can get a map showing the names of the trees that are there. Over either of the bridges takes you to an open area where dogs can run free and up the top of the hill is another area for woodland walking. There is another kids playground in Kearsney Abbey that has recently been greatly extended. Beyond this you can follow the river Dour where there are more swan's nests on little islands and eventually there are some waterfalls where the river goes over some ruins. If you want manicured show gardens look elsewhere, if you want a free day out for the kids ( and dogs ) then the only criticism is that it is so popular it gets a bit busy.

Kearsney Court Gardens.

The garden illustrated is now known as Russell Gardens and is a public park. This was originally part of the Kearsney Court estate but was given to the local council after the war.

The gardens of Kearney Court itself remain the private property of the residents and are not open to the public. I should be happy to enlarge on this and help to make your information more accurate if so wished.
