there are several gardens in the lakes that are of the first rank.

plenty of colour. nice woodland walks and an interesting house. excellent day out.

We visited Hutton in July 2008: what a wonderful place! The walled garden is a delight of fruits and flowers, colors and scents: if you love English gardens don't miss this one! I am a garden designer and this is one of the best! The woods are lovely to walk through and we really enjoyed the house tour and family history as well. Well worth the admission price and not as crowded as some better known gardens. Great goodies in the tearoom too!
