A major house, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, with a serpentine park and a Victorian garden. The Grimsthorpe Castle park was designed by Lancelot Brown (1771) and implemented by his patron, the Duke of Ancaster. The garden contains a knot garden, hedged rose gardens, a terrace with herbaceous and shrub borders. There is also a summerhouse designed by Vanbrugh.

Opening times - April to September. June to September: open Sunday to Thursday. April and May: open Sundays, Thursdays and Bank Holiday Mondays. Open 11am to 6pm.

    there is an attractive garden with topiaries and an orchard area.

    The park is large and includes a lake. The park bus tour is excellent value.

    the castle is worth a look.
