Franciscan Gardens, Prague

Gardenvisit Editorial

A modern garden on the site of an old Franciscan monastery. The design is fresh, colourful and appropriate to its use as a public garden. Prague's Franciscan monastery was used as a police station during the communist era but is now a monastery once more. Part of the monastic estate is now a public garden, designed as modern interpretation of a monastic garden. It is a pleasant retreat from the tourist bustle of Prague's streets.

I don't mean to sound like a garden snob, but this is a nicely maintained, small city park rather than a garden. Such locations provide a peaceful respit from the noise of the city, but for a visitor to Prague with limited time but lots of wonderful sites to visit, this location doesn't warrant the effort needed to get here.

It is sad that a religious garden has become an athiest (communist-made) garden. Nice to have somewhere green to site in Prague though.
