David Fairchild (1869-1954) was a great plant collector who retired to Miami in 1935 and worked with Col. Robert H. Montgomery - who named the botanical garden after his friend.. The garden has extensive collections of rare tropical plants including palms, cycads, flowering trees and vines.

    A plantsman dream garden.a bit like visitng Hilliers Arboretum..there is so much fascinating plant material to see. The Palm collection particularly is superb but so are the Heliconias, Dracaenas, the list goes on and on. Its fab !
