A seventeenth century house with a garden designed by Graham Stuart Thomas for the National Trust. A wall was moved, to give privacy and 'With the wall removed it was decided to make a formal garden - not a slavish period piece, but a neat and orderley design. . . It has a short avenue of pyramid apples and pears, a small sunken, paved rose garden with box hedges, and a chequered planting of Mophead Acacias on a small side lawy. The borders are filled with a modern scheme of shrubs and plants designed to provide beauty and interest throughout the season'. This is a concise account of the National Trust Style of garden design.
