Claverton Manor Garden

An eighteenth century house designed by Jeffry Wyatville and the home of the American Museum. The gardens are a subtle blend of both the remnants of the old manorial pleasure grounds and parkland landscape. Many period features dating from the 1820s survive, including the grotto, the balustrade and curtain walling as well as ornamental stone work. Attributed to George Vivian, son of the original owner of Claverton Manor, John Vivian, they are laid out in the Italianate style of the mid 1800s. The garden has beautiful views of the Limpley Stoke Valley. There is a re-creation of George Washington's Garden at Mount Vernon, an Arboretum with a collection of American trees, 2 walking trails, Colonial Herb and Vegetable Gardens, American Dye border and parkland.
